WordPress website design and build for local village school; Horton CE VA Primary School
My 2 daughters are both at the local village school - Horton CE VA Primary School and so we were quite aware of how bad the school website was, from an aesthetic, content delivery and frequency of content published point of view. Myself and my partner therefore decided to donate some jonwallacedesign studio time to plan, design and deliver a much more efficient and effective website for the school to manage and use. It was agreed the entire site needed to be content managed, with the inclusion of some key content areas to include a timetable of upcoming school events, a photo gallery, a latest news section and a latest newsletters section on top of the basic content pages that help communicate how the school operates to both existing parents/carers and potential new parents/carers looking to get their children into the school.
The school emblem was the foundation element of the refreshed brand we designed for the new website - this featured the Horton green, with visual cues throughout the site to the acorn elements of the emblem. The school ethos of Learning, Caring, Exploring and Sharing was also echoed through all aspects of the site design - with use of a friendly set of fonts, earthy colours/tones and uncomplicated content delivery / layout. The website is powered by WordPress and empowers the school teachers to manage all areas of the content, meaning the What's on section is always updated with upcoming school events for example. The site also includes a wide range of background information about the school - helping to communicate the values and way in which the school sets about delivering the curriculum to the pupils.
As a follow on from the delivery of the school website, jonwallacedesign have also recently assisted in the design of other marketing materials for the school to assist in the drive to fill up new year group intake - something we are very encouraged to hear has been well up on previous years!
Jon worked closely with us when designing the website. He understood the need to ensure the website epitomised the ethos of the school because that was the first impression a parent would get. Since the website has been completed there has been a significant rise in enquiries about school places and our numbers have grown with our most recent Reception class being oversubscribed.
