Design and build of responsive website for community owned local shop, the Hawkesbury Stores
Our local village shop recently had to make the hard decision to close, however, this was not the end of the road for the shop... The villagers decided to group together to and purchase the shop as a community project, with villagers investing personally to own hares in the shop which would become a community owned business. As new locals to the village, myself and the family decided to purchase some shares and additionally offered to invest some jonwallacedesign digital design studio time to create a new website for the new stores.... The management team were very keen to take me up on the offer and thus - we were soon working together to realise the new stores in digital format on the world wide web!
The management team for the shop found a local branding designer to create the new stores logo, this was then passed over to us to act as the foundation for the new website along with the colour scheme from the redecorated stores exterior / interior. We designed the new site in a responsive format to work well on all devices, allowing content to be easily consumed wherever and on whatever kind of device. The site includes a neat little feature in the header which reads the current local time and shows whether the stores are open along with the opening times of the current day - handy to allow folk to know whether to make the trip up to the stores!
Other useful sections of the site include a local calendar which includes details of upcoming local village events which the team at the stores can easily add in. The website has been very well received by the team at the stores, enabling them to easily add in/edit content using the WordPress system, likewise, the end users have enjoyed using the new website to keep up to date with all the news and offers from the stores.
Working with Jon on the Hawkesbury Stores website has been one of the easiest and most stress-free professional relationships I've ever had. He listened carefully to my brief, nailed the look-and-feel first time, and has been responsive and endlessly helpful to all my questions. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending him.
