Brief

X Factor is one of ITV’s most popular TV shows, so when our friends at Live Talkback asked us if we were interested in, firstly, working with them to help win the project and then, secondly, designing out the new official app for both iOS and Blackberry clients, we were very excited! The brief for the app was quite open, with the guys at ITV looking for something the fans would love, something that would keep everyone up to date with the latest news and exclusive gossip, plus a little something that users could play along with at home, whilst watching the TV show.

Solution

The Official X Factor app was designed for iPhone3, iPhone4 and a wide range of Blackberry devices ensuring that a good proportion of the massive amount of X Factor fans could download the app to their phones. The app has a very sexy and slickly designed interface, which allows content to be found easily and features a wide array of great news stories, photo galleries, exclusive video clips and even artist songs from the live finals shows! On top of all this great content is the interactive feature which helps augment the whole X Factor experience: Tap to Clap.

Tap to Clap was an idea we came up with that allows the user to instantly show their excitement / horror at how the current act on the TV stream is performing. If you love the performance clout the Clap button, if it's a bore...( yep you've got it!) Bash the Boo button! Shake and shout for added bonus effects! You will love it - trust us (we love it)! You can now feel truly part of the X Factor, even when sat at home. As part of our involvement on the project we designed each of the app clients from scratch, creating bespoke views for each of the very varied device clients (varied in both screen sizes, DPI and also interaction models – some 5-way, some touch, some both!) and also developed UX interaction choreography examples to give to the development team to implement into the app builds.
